FUNDRAISING

We are a small group of people trying to raise money for the riding centre for children and adults with mental handicaps.

At this centre we encourage independence and real life skills. We have found giving people the opportunity to care for horses and ponies has assisted in developing these skills. We are often amazed at the speed of learning and the commitment to the horses that this has encouraged.

The project has been functioning since 1995 and, in this time, has demonstrated a real need for this kind of activity. The riding centre is a living project so needs constant funding. With the expense of horse feed, bedding and, most expensive of all, the Vet's bills.

The fences and stables need maintaining at all times and as we grow bigger we shall need more stabling. Of course, more horses means more feed and hay and bigger Vet's bills. We have also suffered a great deal from vandalism.

So far we have raised enough money to fence the field and and build several wooden stables. All this has taken a long time raising money in the usual ways with sponsored walks, book sales, raffles, discos, horse race evenings and fetes etc. We also run five open horse shows a year to offer our people the opportunity to compete in the events and meet other people but mainly to assist in the funding of this rather expensive project.

We feel we are doing all that we can to earn the money for this project but our efforts are taking so long that we are hoping to get some extra help from other organisations, who will appreciate what we are trying to do for this very worthwhile project.
